Oxford is more than just academia. There’s something incredibly romantic about this city, with its riverside paths, beautiful architecture and poetic history, and there’s nothing better than just wandering through the city’s cobbled streets with your favourite person.
While the list of attractions in Oxford is endless, and you could spend weeks exploring galleries, museums and restaurants, we wanted to share our favourite parts of Oxford that cater for a more intimate experience.
Where to Stay: Malmaison Oxford
Originally Oxford Castle, Malmaison Oxford was used as a prison until 1996. It’s located in the Castle Quarter which features an array of bars, galleries and restaurants. The location is fantastic, and the rooms feel luxuriously romantic.

What to See: Oxford Botanic Gardens
Not only is this the oldest botanic garden in the UK, it’s also a literary lover’s dream. The gardens were frequented by J. R.R. Tolkien and Lewis Carroll and have been said to have inspired elements of The Lord of the Rings and Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland. Make sure to pay attention to the opening hours as this varies by month.

What to See: Christ Church College
You don't even need to be a Harry Potter fan to enjoy this, but it doesn't hurt.
Where to Eat: Quod Restaurant and Bar
It’s conveniently located on the city’s high street, but there’s no doubt the best part of this restaurant is the Italian garden terrace – it makes you feel like you’re on a holiday abroad. The food is fantastic, and there’s something for everyone on the unusually affordable menu.
For beer lovers, The Grapes offers an impressive selection if you want to try something new.

What to Try: Punting at Cherwell Boathouse
An Oxford tradition since the 1880s, punting is a must try when you visit Oxford. We recommend a 4-hour hire to make the most of it. Pack a picnic, drinks and a speaker so you can pull off when you find the perfect spot. Make sure to watch the video if you've never punted before.
Enjoy your weekend!
